Pass-Through Billing Codes for Atrium Products

Since January 1, 2005, Medicare has allowed pass-through payments for Atrium Chest Drainage devices. The Department of Health and Human Services has created HCPCS pass-through codes that will allow ‘outpatients’ or ‘outbound patients’ to obtain the necessary back-up chest drains/chest drain valves needed for continued, uninterrupted drainage in the home/outpatient setting. The new codes allow for quick, efficient billing for these chest drains.
